Dean’s Crockpot Applesauce

There is no formal recipe for this.  My husband has been making applesauce this way for years and it comes out really great.

Peel, core and slice apples (we have a large crock pot so we do about 2 large bags of apples).  Layer into crock pot with sugar, cinnamon and a few pads of butter.  Do this in a couple of deep layers.  Cook on high for about 3 hours.  At the 3 hour mark check to see if the apples break up easily when stirred with a wooden spoon.  If they do they are done, if not let them go a bit longer until stirring with a wooden spoon really breaks them down.  Taste and see if the spice mixture and sugar level is right for you.  If not add more to taste.  That is it!

We make big batches of this and freeze so we have it on hand.

  1. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now. Is there a particular type of apple you use, or will any type work?
